Newcomer FAQs
What do I need to bring?
Swimmers, a towel, and warm clothing for after. Shoes that are easy to put on with cold hands and feet help.
Optional: hat, gloves, and a hot drink.
How much does it cost?
Nothing — our community dips are free. We occasionally run events that may have a cost.
How do I join the WhatsApp group?
Come for a dip first. After that, you’re welcome to join the local chapter WhatsApp group.
Will someone show me what to do?
Yes — just let a leader know it’s your first time. We’ll talk you through what to expect and support you into the
water.
Do I have to talk or open up?
Not at all. Many come for the calm and the connection. You’re welcome to just dip and be.
Is this a mental health space?
We’re not a clinical service, but we are a supportive community. Many join for their mental wellbeing and you’re
welcome to share, or just listen. We can also signpost to further help if needed.
Where do you dip?
Each chapter has a regular location — details are shared in the WhatsApp group.
Where do I park?
This varies by location. Ask in the group chat or check the chapter’s welcome message.
How quickly will I feel the benefits?
Most people feel a shift immediately — physically, mentally, emotionally. Expect some shock at first, followed by
what many call an ‘afterglow’
. It gets easier over time.
I hate cold water — will I enjoy this?
That’s completely normal! You don’t have to love the cold to love how it makes you feel afterwards. Give it a go —
you might surprise yourself.
