Community Fundraising
Supporting men's wellbeing through challenge, community and shared experience.
It Starts With One Idea
One of the beautiful things about IceBreakers is that people naturally want to give back. Whether it's climbing a mountain, running a race, organising a local challenge or simply doing something difficult alongside others - fundraising events are a powerful way to support the future of IceBreakers while deepening connection and community.
“You don't need permission, a committee or a huge event plan. Often the best fundraisers start with one person saying: ‘Anyone fancy doing this together for IceBreakers?’”
This guide is here to make it simple for any member to start a fundraiser for IceBreakers.

The Easiest Way to Fundraise
The simplest approach is to organise your own challenge or sign up to an existing event, then create a fundraising page linked to IceBreakers.
Half marathons, trail races, parkruns - lace up and go the distance for IceBreakers.
Summit a peak or tackle a long-distance trail. Challenge yourself and raise funds along the way.
Sportives, coast-to-coast rides or a personal distance goal - pedal for a purpose.
Sponsored cold-water dips and open water swims - what better way to fundraise for IceBreakers?
Long-distance walks, charity hikes or sponsored steps - every stride counts.
Fitness challenges, local gatherings or something completely unique - get creative with your community.
How to Set Up Your Fundraiser
Pick something that excites you - it could be local, ambitious, fun, something that pushes you personally, or simply something that brings people together.
Head to the IceBreakers JustGiving campaign page and click "Start Fundraising". This automatically creates your own page connected to IceBreakers with our branding and charity info.
Start with friends and family, WhatsApp groups, work colleagues, your local IceBreakers community and Instagram. Don't overthink it - honest and personal always works best.
Once your JustGiving page is created, you can add your own story, set a fundraising target, upload photos, post training updates and add event details to make it your own.
Fundraising Tips
A few simple things that help you raise more and enjoy the journey.
People are often more generous than you expect. A bigger target can inspire bigger donations.
Personal stories connect more than polished fundraising language. Be honest about why you care.
Training runs, cold mornings, wobbles, progress - people love feeling part of the journey.
Most donations come from direct asks, not passive posts. A personal message goes a long way.
Some employers will match what you raise - this can double your impact with a single conversation.
Gratitude encourages momentum and community. A simple thank you post can inspire others to give.
We'd love to support and celebrate what members are doing. Feel free to:
- Tag your local chapter and HQ on social media
- Share your fundraising link with the community
- Send photos or updates from your challenge
- Invite others to join your fundraiser
We'll do our best to re-share and support where we can.
Occasionally IceBreakers may organise official charity teams for larger events like half marathons or endurance challenges where we secure dedicated charity places.
These will be shared separately through HQ and local chapters when available. But for most fundraisers, the simple community-led approach is the easiest and most powerful way to get involved.
Where the Money Goes
IceBreakers is still largely volunteer-led, but as we grow nationally there are real costs involved in keeping chapters safe, consistent and accessible.
Providing chapters with safety kits, first aid supplies and essential cold-water gear.
Training and safeguarding for volunteer chapter leads across the UK.
Insurance, operational costs and the systems that keep everything running safely.
Website, digital systems, communications and printed outreach materials.
Subsidised camps and events for men on lower incomes - making access fair.
Launching and supporting new chapters so more men can access IceBreakers locally.
Developing sustainable, long-term support for men across the UK.
Continuing to offer regular, accessible spaces where men connect through nature and conversation.
Every fundraiser, whether it raises £100 or £10,000, genuinely helps.
This isn't about performance, pressure or being an ultra-athlete. It's about challenge, connection and showing up together. Every pound raised helps IceBreakers continue creating spaces where men can connect through nature, cold water and community. And every challenge completed together becomes part of the story.
